Belgin Palaz is an Assistant Public Defender in the Forensics Division of the Maryland Office of the Public Defender. As an Adjunct Professor of Law she teaches first-year Legal Research & Writing.

As a litigator Professor Palaz handles complex and high-profile cases across the Maryland which frequently include forensic evidence such as firearm and toolmark analysis, historical cell site mapping, child abuse, fingerprints, DNA, cellular device extractions, arson, and any other area implicating expert testimony. Professor Palaz litigates cases at all stages including pre-trial Daubert challenges, bond reviews, trials, violations of probation allegation, and post-conviction proceedings. This advocacy includes extensive written work product and in-court presentation of complex scientific or technical issues. Prior to joining the Forensics Division Professor Palaz practiced as a felony attorney in Montgomery County, Maryland as well as a misdemeanor and felony attorney in Harford County, Maryland. Professor Palaz is also a nationally trained attorney through Gideon's Promise and is a member of the Maryland chapter of Gideon's Promise. She serves as a core faculty member for Advanced Litigation Training within the Public Defender's Office. Professor Palaz is a graduate of Wellesley College (B.A.) and Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Washington College of Law (J.D., Magna Cum Laude).
